Show Notes

What’s it like to be raised by rockstars? Join us as China Isler, daughter of two members of the hit 70s band Jefferson Airplane, talks about her childhood, her journey towards faith and her life as a champion for recovery, spreading the good news about 12 step recovery. Tune in to hear how music and faith work together like melody and harmony and the social justice advocate who inspires China Isler every day.

China Isler grew up in San Francisco, CA with a life full of cultural and political activism present, as her parents were in the band “Jefferson Airplane.” She was involved in social justice activism, singing and acting from an early age. She began what would become her lifelong involvement with and passion for substance use disorder recovery at the age of fifteen. In her twenties, she studied theology at Loyola Marymount University, and then went on to work in multiple rehabs and sober livings as a counselor.

Prior to and during her work as a pastor, she created numerous workshops and events on recovery and spirituality. She presented at two regional and national assemblies within her former denomination, as well as rehabs and a college. She has also been interviewed about her life and work for podcasts.

She plans to create inspiring workshops globally on the intersection of recovery, spirituality, and religion through an interfaith lens, at houses of worship, high schools, colleges, medical schools and more. She is currently a substance use and disorder counselor in the Los Angeles area and plans to open her own private practice. Her specialty as a counselor is in the field of spirituality.

During the interview, China was studying for her Masters in Divinity. She is currently pausing her program to work as a Substance Abuse Counselor.
